B. Sharise Moore

B. Sharise Moore is an author, curriculum designer, and the Poetry Editor for the Hugo and World Fantasy Award-Winning FIYAH Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction. Moore’s poetry has appeared in These Bewitching Bonds, Mermaids Monthly, Starline, and Fantasy Magazine. In 2020, she received the Sustainable Arts Foundation Award for Young Adult Fiction. Her short poem, “Black Beak” was nominated for a 2022 Dwarf Star Award. Moore is currently a writing workshop facilitator and Writer in Residence with The Hurston Wright Foundation. In 2022, she edited and designed the curriculum for Conjuring Worlds: An Afrofuturist Textbook for Middle and High School Students. With more than 100 tiered extension activities appropriate for both middle and high school students, more than a dozen rubrics, an extensive 385-word glossary, comprehension questions, vocabulary, and prompts for discussion covering subjects across the curriculum, Conjuring Worlds is a one-stop interdisciplinary teaching tool. B. Sharise Moore’s forthcoming books include Fangs, Feathers, and Folklore, a middle-grade field guide of African mythological creatures from Algonquin Young Readers in 2024 and Fatimah’s Fantastic City, a social justice picture book from HarperCollins in 2025. She lives in Baltimore, MD with her husband and young son.
