Dr. Ebony Toussaint

Dr. Ebony Toussaint, PhD, MPH, MSN, RN, is a research scientist, emergency nurse, and comic writer whose work bridges public health, nursing, and visual storytelling. Her scholarship integrates quantitative methods, ethnobotany, and Afrofuturist frameworks to examine health, healing, and healthcare systems, with a focus on Gullah Geechee communities and ancestral foodways. She is the creator of the webcomic Crash Cart, a graphic medicine project rooted in emergency nursing that uses speculative storytelling to explore power, ethics, and care in high-stakes clinical spaces. Dr. Toussaint also co-hosts the award-winning Ororo Comics Podcast, centering comics as tools for health education, equity, and cultural critique.
