Kerri Grant

Kerri was born in Jamaica and moved to New York with her parents and little brother when she was 11. Being an immigrant and feeling like an outsider led to her filling notebooks of poetry. But it wasn’t long before she began consorting with characters and dialogue. Post college, a serendipitous internship at Nickelodeon led to a script coordinator role on the groundbreaking preschool show, The Backyardigans, followed by a Nickelodeon writing fellowship in Los Angeles. Since then, Kerri has been a staff writer on TV shows such as Doc McStuffins for which she’s won the prestigious Peabody award, Humanitas Prize, NAACP Image Award, Sentinel Award, and NAMIC Award. Kerri has been a staff writer on Disney’s Elena of Avalor and Mira, Royal Detective and served as co-story editor on Nickelodeon’s Nella the Princess Knight. She’s written for many other shows and was most recently an Executive Producer and showrunner on Netflix show Ada Twist, Scientist, a co-production between Netflix, Chris Nee’s Laughing Wild, the Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, and Wonder Worldwide. Kerri earned an MA in Mythological Studies from Pacifica Graduate Institute, is now a ten-time Emmy nominee and one-time winner, and lives in Los Angeles with her Black cat, Luna.
